Tags to Riches

If like me you have hundreds (thousands) of photographs in folders, in project folders, in import folders, in final folders, event and holiday folders as JPGs as TIFFs, and so on.... makes finding an image a nightmare. There is a new solution to this problem, Tagging. No longer just what kids do with spray cans or mums do with new school uniform. Getting into the habit of Tagging your photographs makes locating them again afterwards a breeze.

How to do it? Well in Windows 7 and Windows Vista it is easy. Open your Pictures Library, go to an image, select it by clicking on it once and in the Status bar at the bottom of the window will be displayed a thumbnail of the image, file type and along with a few other pieces of information, a Tag field. Simply "Add a Tag" or as many as you wish. Separate each with a semi colon (;), windows will actually put this in for you and remember to click the "Save" button when you are finished.

Now you can search using your Tags or you can "Arrange by Tag". Pictures with multiple Tags will show as multiple images, one for each Tag, when viewed like this.

It will take a while to go through and Tag all of your images, but it will save you time in the long run. And going through all your old images, you may find a missing master piece; at the very least it is bound to put a smile on your face.

Sunsets

The weather has changed again, the clocks have gone back and winter is almost upon us. The upside of that is sunrise pictures can be taken around 7am and sunset pictures are around 4.30pm, even I can manage those times. I have one in mind, but the cloud cover the past few days has prevented me from getting the shot I want.

But whilst the weather hasn't been so good, I have been getting some web work done. I have created and put live a Welcome tab on the Picture IT Facebook page. I have also started work on a website; more news on that closer to the launch.

The Picture IT page now has 77 fans and logged a new high of 194 page views on Tuesday.

Back to the subject of photography....As I said, I have a few images I'm after but I am also going through all of my photographs for any little gems I may have missed, before I archive them to a back up disk. This will stir memories of warmer days and put a big smile on my face.

Thank you for all your support, I enjoy sharing my photographs with you.

Autumn Glow

Well summer is over, the trees are starting to change colour and the evenings are drawing with their beautiful red sunset skies. I hoping to spent more time with my camera than I have over the past couple of months. I have busy working but I think I have a routine in place that gives a good balance between working and creative time. I have taken some photos during the past couple of months, and I have photographed another wedding. I just need to make time for the editing and posting. So hopefully there will be some good shots in there. I have also had loads of ideas for some shots I want to try. So the photography is never totally on the back burner. Looking forward to posting some warm seasonal shots for you all. Thanks for all your support MsG

Money, money, money

They say money makes the world go around, not sure if that's true, but it certainly greases the wheels. I have spent most of the past couple of week’s job hunting and trying to sort out my financial life. I have been off work 9 months now and although the rest and going out and about taking photographs has been good for me, it has been traumatic on my bank balance.

I think I have everything sorted now, I start a new job at the beginning of August and I think I am ready to step out of my comfort zone and back into the real world. I will go armed with my camera, so I can hide behind the lens if I need to.

I know that I have been hiding behind my camera. I have been watching the world rather than participating. This is a side effect of the depression. On the other hand the feed back from my photographs has helped rebuild my confidence. So thank you all for your continued support. I hope to find the balance between what I have to do and what I want to do, creating images we all enjoy on my path back to well being.

Research, shot, share

Over the past two weeks I have spent a huge amount of time, out in the sunshine taking photographs and then, many evenings editing, sharing and promoting my images. I have been doing a lot of research in to pushing my photographs to a larger audience. I have been entering competitions and reading blogs and ezines for ideas.

I have also had my first wedding shot, which was a huge fun. I loved every minute of it and I got some great photographs, which I hope the bride and groom will like as much as I do. And then my daughter had her prom...what an array of beautiful young ladies and handsome young men to photograph.

So I have had quite a bit of fun, I learnt alot, I have a nice sun tan and a huge amount of very colourful and rather nice photographs to show for it.

Thank you for your support

Creative thoughts

I enjoy taking photographs and for many years I have taken them and kept them to myself. They were personal and things that I enjoyed looking at. I have recently enjoyed sharing my photographs and I am looking to spread the distribution of them. This requires some thought on how to display them in a way that other people might enjoy. I have had several suggestions and a few ideas of my own.

I have also created a page dedicated to my photography on Facebook, which can be found at http://www.facebook.com/Picture.IT.MsGs.Photography. I hope some of you enjoy the photographs as much as I do.

Walking with a limp

Day two of my new journey and my back has gone, so I'm walking with a limp, but I still managed to go out and take more photographs to promote Picture It Photography.

Got some lovely photographs of Yazmin....now her mates want me to take some of them. Need to work out a price list. I'll do that tomorrow. With their senior prom coming up, it could be a busy time.

Pain killers and bed for me I think.

Thank you everyone for the support you have shown me.

First steps

Over the past months, I have found that my photography has made me truely happy. I have given up a career I once enjoyed so that I can spend more time taking photographs. To support myself while I do this I have set out to promote my photography. I have started this blog and I have also created a page on Facebook called Picture It .

Come and have a look at my photographs and if you like them, click "like".
